What is the background of founding the Society?

We (Cindy and Nor) moved from Shanghai to Seattle (where they had no prior ties) in late 2016 and quickly encountered the “Seattle Freeze”.  In order to battle with the “Freeze”, we decided to create our own community of people with a shared connection to Shanghai. Please go to “BLOG” section of the website and read Cindy’s article “Assimilating in Seattle ”to learn more details.

How does the Society provide value to participants?

The society is meant to assemble people with a connection to Shanghai who are now living in Seattle. The group hopes to provide both a social and intellectual purpose to help members adjust to our life in Seattle as well as to stay current with developments in China.

How to join the Society? Any membership fees is it required to join?

Currently, The Society does not charge any membership fees. We feel very lucky to have the APCO (a Washington D.C. headquartered strategic communication agency) Seattle office to be our venue sponsor. We encourage members to bring snacks, wines and beverages to share to make the events more tasteful. In order to join the Society, please send Cindy an email (zhouxingdiwa@gmail.com).

The Society welcomes sponsors for wine, food and beverage as well as venues in order to add variety to the members.
